NYC 9/11 Public Portal Document

Flynn, Barbara From: Serafin, Kim Sent: Friday, December 07, 2001 12:36 PM To: Flynn, Barbara; Hess, Michael; Harding, Robert Subject: potential Twin Towers Fund lawsuit......

I've already sent this information to Tamra, Larry and to the Press Office.... but Tamra asked me to pass it along to you as well.... Got a call from the NYS Emergency Management Office (set up to help field calls for families affected by 9111 attacks) -- they said that they have received several calls from widows and family members of government employees who are upset with the Twin Towers Fund because they feel they are eligible for our benefits and because they feel our website and the description of the fund is misleading. Plus, some saw the website when it incorrectly said that "...other government 'personnel'..." would be eligible. --- The real version reads other government "offices...." (and also, please note that, according to this emergency management office there is a US Army Audit booklet that has been published that has descriptions of all the funds, and in it, it uses that "government personnel" language for the Twin Towers Fund.)

Anyway, apparently there is a widow of a NY State Tax and Finance employee who called this NYS office and has told them that she has hired a lawyer who is considering taking the Twin Towers Fund to court because our language of who the fund is intended for is unclear. (there are 3 other families who are also potentially involved in this law suit.) The widow's name is Susan Berger, wife of Stephen Berger.
