Dear Colleague:

The World Trade Center tragedy has forced a layer of uncertainty to the City's immediate economic future in addition to the already impending national economic slowdown. The difficulty of assessing the repercussions of the disaster is already being reflected in the widely varying estimates discussed in the media. Much of the difficulty, especially in forecasting the economic impact on employment and income arises because such a catastrophic event is unprecedented in its magnitude.

I think and you will probably agree with me that there is a need for us to get together and exchange our viewpoints and ideas on where we stand. Perhaps we will all benefit by listening to the various approaches and methodologies that our other colleagues are using in deriving assumptions and in developing their forecasts.

I would like to invite you to join us at a conference on October 11 to discuss the impact of the World Trade Center disaster on the City's economy. The attachment to this E-mail shows the list of participants, specific topics of discussion and other pertinent information.
