WTC RESPONSE UPDATE: GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES RECOVERY CENTER TO ASSIST SMALL BUSINESSES DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY ATTACK Governor George E. Pataki today announced the creation of a Small Business Recovery Center in Yonkers to provide temporary, free office space to small businesses displaced or otherwise directly impacted by the World Trade Center attack. "New York State is committed to helping the many small businesses that were impacted by the World Trade Center attack," Governor Pataki said. "By providing these companies with a place to work, along with the basic tools to conduct business, the Small Business Recovery Center will enable them to - get back on their feet and resume operations in New York State." Empire State Development (ESD), the Governor's Office for Small Cities, the df New State Office of General Services (OGS) and the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency are partnering with private-sector companies such as IBM, Cablevision and IKEA to equip the 130,000-square-footCenter, which is located in the Yonkers Ridge Hill office building. The Center currently has 50 available workstations, each equipped with phones and IBM computers, with more available as demand warrants. No rent will be charged to the small businesses that utilize the space from now until March 31, 2002. Businesses interested in learning more about the Small Business Recovery Center or scheduling an appointment should call 1-518-292-5200, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Senator Nick Spano said, "Many thousands of New York City's workforce were displaced in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
