Re: . 90 & 100 Trinity Place (HS of Economics & Finance)
Possible Air Infiltration from the Decontamination & Destruction of
133-135 Greenwich Street and 21-23 IiiImes Street
Dear Mr. D'Alimonte:
A thorough inspection of the subject structures and the adjacent structures has been conducted t,n .l t! I` c,.
.`2005. Communicating openings, air intakes, and other potential pathways of contamination have l Itv-u
identified for inclusion in the decontamination design. Facility managers for the adjacent stRicturc, l l,ivl•
been contacted so that engineering controls may be implemented to protect occupants. Of parti\ ui:u
concern are air intakes of the school building directly to the east of the project site. These concerns ia\
been addressed cooperatively with the Department of Education.
The Copper Group's Asbestos Contractor will apply a hard barrier (plywood) over the existing 7`' floot
fresh air intake louver on the West side of 100 Trinity, anchor it to the masonry, and then apply two
of 6-mil polyethylene sheeting over the hard barrier. Since the fresh air intake louver will be cu\ ere\i,
three (3) windows, in areas not occupied by students, on the 8`I' floor (i.t. kitchen), will be opcuLd tO
allow fresh air to penetrate the S`t' floor. The air from the opened windows on the 8`" floor Will eu titrtl I
dropped ceiling which is the return air plenum for the 7`" floor MLR with ducts that lead directly to rile
two (2) units. This will supply adequate make-up fresh air to the two units.
The Copper Group's Mechanical Contractor will blank off the two fresh air intake ducts attached to th,;
fresh air intake louver (approximately 12" x 6" each) on the 6`" floor (Exterior Fresh \ir L.ouv Li , n
Thames Street is inaccessible) of 90 Trinity. It is the understanding that the IlVAC unit in ilurstiutl 11 nhlt
in operation (has not been in operation for at least three years), and will not be put back into uper;ltion
Therefore, no make air is required. The Copper Group's Mechanical Contractor will also pros!\l, ,t
temporary extension to the fresh air intake duct (100 Trinity) and extend it towards Cedar Street uv r lllI.
Auditorium Roof.
