We are working to identify a qualified contractor to clean all the air ducts that service the common areas and the apartment vents and will advise you when the work will commence. 14. One of the residents has asked us to look into installing HEPA filters on the HVAC equipment. This is typically only done for hospital surgical and infectious disease spaces. Nevertheless, we are looking at how these filters would be installed, the impact on the equipment and of course costs associated both initially and on an ongoing basis. We will advise you of our findings. 15. We are working through the Real Estate Board of NY to have a letter issued from the Commissioner of the NYC DEP that characterizes their efforts and the nature of the testing standards they are applying to the ambient air conditions. We hope that this letter will provide additional comfort.

Neighborhood:

We recognize and appreciate the numerous inconveniences that you are dealing with every day. Related Companies has and will continue to communicate regularly with representatives of the City government offices. We must recognize that the decisions of the Mayor and the Governor are influenced most significantly by the multiple law enforcement agencies overseeing the WTC site investigation.

We have also, as part of the booklet, provided you with a listing of local elected city, state and federal officials that you should feel free to contact to advocate on your behalf. Your multiple voices will be heard more clearly than will ours.

While we are not satisfied with the current neighborhood conditions, we must also reflect on the exceptional progress that has occurred in just the last 5 weeks to restore some of the access and convenience of downtown. Hopefully, the progress will continue expeditiously and comprehensively.

Emergency Systems:

The building is serviced by a set of battery back up emergency lights in the fire stairs. Every other lamp has the battery back up and the lamps should stay lit for approximately 90 minutes after the electricity goes out. We found that approximately 25 of these emergency lights did not perform as expected and they have been replaced. Though it meets all building code requirements for the building, we will also investigate upgrading the emergency lighting system.

A resident has questioned the posted fire safety plan, which indicates that a public address system is provided and there appeared to be none in use at the time of the tragedy. In fact, the PA system referred to in the plan is for the use of the fire department only and allows them to communicate at their stations in the building.
