THE NEW YORK CITY LANDMARKS PRESERVATION COMMISSION 1 CENTRE STREET 9TH FLOOR NORTH NEW YORK,NY 10007 ;

TEL; 212 669-7700 FAX:212 669-7780 fit,

PERMIT FOR MINOR WORK ISSUE DATE: I EXPIRATION DATE: DOCKET 0: I PMW #: 06/17/02 06/19/2006 026829 PMW 02-7224

ADDRESS 44 ET BOROUGH: BLOCK/LOT:

John Street Methodist Church MANHATTAN 67/30 INDIVIDUAL LANDMARK

ISSUED TO: Board of Trustees Old John St. United Methodist Church 44 John Street New York,NY 10038

Pursuant to Section 25-310 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, the Landmarks Preservation Commission hereby approves certain alterations to the subject premises as proposed in your application completed on Juno 17. 2002.

The approved work consists of cleaning the exterior of the building, including the facade and roof, of debris related to the collapse of the World Trade Center. including, at the facade, removing all loose debris using, on the horizontal surfaces, non-metallic bristle brushes or scrapers, followed up by wet wiping and a low pressure water rinse of not more than 250 PSI, and, at the roof, collecting all loose debris, washing loose gravel, and wet wiping other surfaces, as described in specifications prepared the City of New York Department of Environmental Protection and submitted as components of this application

In reviewing this proposal, the Commission noted that the designation report describes 44 John Street as an Anglo-Italianate style church constructed in 1841. The Commission also notes that there is some debris on the roof and facade

Staff has reviewed these specifications and finds that the work on the roof will not require the removal of any significant protected architectural material; that it will not detract from the architectural character of the building or streetscape; and that cleaning the facade will bring the building closer to its historic appearance. Therefore, the Commission has no objection to the work proceeding at this time, or the issuance of permits by any other city agency.
