Re: Limited settled dust bulk sampling for fiberglass at P.S. 89M
Dear Mr. Orlan:
. At your request, ATC Associates, Inc. representative Mr. Yiannis Efstathiou visited P.S. 89M located at 201 Warren Street, New York, NY 10282 on February 7“’, 2002. The purpose of the site visit was to perform a settled dust bulk sampling to be analyzed for fiberglass fiber content on areas indicated to ATC by the Parents Association environmental consultant Mr. Tom Fusillo of ENVIRON Corp, and approved by New York City Board of Education (BOE). These areas are the following:
• 1^ floor hallway • 2"** floor hallway • 4"’ floor hallway • Three classrooms - one with South side, one with North side and the last with East side unit ventilators • Cafeteria • Gymnasium • Auditorium
Bulk samples of settled dust to be analyzed for fiberglass fiber content were collected only from locations where there was sufficient amount of settled dust for bulk sampling and analysis.
ATC was able to collected bulk samples only from all the aforementioned locations.
The purposed of the dust bulk sampling is to determine if settled dust in the school contains fiberglass fibers. ATC will be repeating this sampling preferably every Thursday as per the recommendation of ENVIRON and after the approval of NYC-BOE. This is the third consecutive week such a sampling is performed in P.S. 89M.
