Mr. Bernard P. Orlan September 11, 2002 Air Sampling for Metals Page .2 P.S. 002 (Manhattan) ATC Project No. 15-19125-0341

The established regulatory values for metals are intended for industrial workplace exposures and are not generally applicable to office/school settings. There are no standards for these metals in indoor air in non-industriai situations.

RESULTS

Chromium was the only metal that was detected in all of the samples obtained (including the blank). Blank-con-ecting the samples lowers the Cr concentrations to below the limits of detection for the analyses.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ha.s set a screening level for hexavalent chromium in air of 0.6 ug/m’, this assumes a continuous exposure for one year. The samples here were analyzed for total chromium (trivalent and hexavalent). The concentrations are well below the EPA level.

ATC appreciates the opportunity to provide this indoor air quality service to the DOE. Please call me at (212) 353-8280 extension 298 if you have any questions.

Sincerely, ATC Associates, Inc. Reviewed bv
