Mr. Magdi Farag, P.E., Chief Division of Sewer Regulation and Control Bureau of Sewers NYC Department of Environmental Protection 40 Worth Street New York, NY 10013 Subject; West Side Connection - (Amtrak) Manhattan, New York City Dear Mr. Farag: This is in response to your comments by letter dated July 14, 1988. Comment 1; This manhole is on Amtrak property and will be maintained by Amtrak. Since we will be using precast circular manholes, we chose an alternate design for the drop pipe rather than the City standard. Comment 2; We will call for replacement of the existing frame and cover with new 27" cover per request. We used a S'-O" x 4’-0" chimney instead of standard 4*-0" x 4'-0", so that new wall will bear directly on existing sewer wall. We feel this will provide more strength at no increased cost. We have added two (2) notes - clean existing rebars for anchorage and use of epoxy bonding compound. Comment 3; Enclosed are structural design calculations for ' - the proposed manhole #14 and the structural cap, per your request. Enclosed are three (3) complete sets of contract documents for your review and approval. Please return one set stamped approved.
