a natural camber shall be fabricated with the concave side on the bottom. Butt welds shall develop full strength of 500 tons. B. Steel Piping for Bends and Transitions 66" I.D. lines 1. Steel piping 66" in diameter shall be 3/8" wall 1 electric-fusion welded steel plate conforming to i ASTM A134. Material shall conform to ASTM A-255, Grade C. Changes in direction shall be accom­ plished by mitered sections fabricated from the ( above specified pipe. All miters in a specific i turn shall be equal to circumscribed arc and no I single miter (gore) shall excefrd 22-1/2®. 2. Cathodic Protection: Cathodic protection shall 1 be of the sacrificial anode type. Anodes shall i ! be of zinc. i 3. Welded Connections (Welding): Prior to the start of any welding, all corrosion products and other foreign matter shall be removed from the surfaces to be welded by either scraping, chipping or wire-brushing. a. All pipe line welding shall conform to the Amer ican Petroleum Institute ’’Standard for Field Welding of Pipe.Lines" (API standard No. 1104) unless specifically excepted here­ in. b. Welds shall be made by shielded metal-arc welding or submerged arc welding process. Direct current shall be used exclusively. Oxyacetylene welding may be used for socket welded joints or butt welded joints 2 inches or smaller in diameter. c. Each welder shall be certified in accordance with API Standard No. 1104. Such cerfifica- tion shall have been obtained a maximum of one (1) year prior to the acceptance of the Proposal. Only recognized testing agencies, as approved by the Contractor, shall be ac­ ceptable for certification.
