C. CONCRETE TESTING 1. In accordance with the general conditions and as amended herein tests of the concrete will be made by an approved independent testing and inspection shall be by a laboratory hired by the Contractor. The Subcontractor shall provide casual labor and assistance to the testing laboratory personnel for the testing specified in this section. 2. At least one test of slump and air content shall be made on fresh concrete for each 50 cubic yards of each class of concrete (or fraction thereof) placed in any one day and in any event not less than one test for each class of concrete each day it is used. Slump shall be determined in accor­ dance with ASTM Specification C-143-78. Air con­ tent shall be determined in accordance with ASTM Specification C-138-77 or C~231-81. Additional tests shall be made as required to demonstrate that the requirements of the Specifications are being met. . ' 3. A set of three cylinders shall be molded for each 50 cubic yards, or fraction thereof, of each class of concrete placed in any cne day's concreting, for testing at the age of 26 days. An additional two cylinders shall be molded at intervals as above for testing at the age of 7 days. Test cyl­ inders shall be molded in accordance with ASTM Specification C-31-69. 4. The standard age for strength test shall be 28 days and the strength of such test shall be the average of the breaking strengths of the three cylinders comprising the set. The 7 day tests will be used for purposes of job control once an age-strength relationship has been established by the testing laboratory ,for the materials and pro­ portions used. 5. The average of any three consecutive 28 day- strength tests representing each class of concrete shall be equsal to or greater than the specified strength and not more than 10 percent shall have an average value less than 90 percent of the spe­ cified strength.
