We plan to include the following on our website. Please let me know of any changes required or suggested re NYCDEP. Do you always have a number people can call to verify? After hours? Thanks, Dick ***************** The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) and their contractors all require employees to carry official photo-identification and to produce that identification upon request. In addition, NYCDEP employees have and show official badges. *****************

This is in response to the recent message forwarded to our office and initiated by Mr. Robert Harding of 140 West Broadway.

Our office contacted Mr. Harding regarding the visit from our staff. He indicated that he had been shown photo-identification, a badge, and was provided with a telephone number for our office. He stated he had not been concerned by our staff's presence since identification had been provided, but that the operator had insisted on it being reported because EPA had^ not sent anyone out.

The DEP was responding to calls reporting the presence of interior dust resulting from the collapse of the WTC until the USEPA hotline announcement. Further the DEP is currently overseeing the building exterior program. DEP staff may therefore request access to different building areas in order to facilitate inspections.

DEP staff have and readily provide photo-identification and badges.
