Per ..:Inference call today with Rep. Nadler's staffer, Brad, CLO, PIO. Brad asked us to request you tc run a query that would identify applicants who are receiving rental assistance fo- the following reasons: Waiting on EPA cleaning and moved from pre-disaster dwelling for -easons such as,e.g., damaged dwelling, lower rental payments because of loss of i:..ome. He informed Rep. Nadler's staffers that he was very concerned if there were indi,.:dual whc are still out of their homes waiting on EPA cleaning. He informed the staf_:-rs that he would call EPA tomorrow and have those individuals moved to the top of the 1-_st for cleaning. Brad informed Rep. Nadler's staffers that our staff is looking into ther applicants that may have been changed from 408b to 408a that are approaching the -_.d of the.r eligibility. -riginal Message----- From. Hell. Gloria, Rep. _'adler's office has a valid concern. Some clarifications, in the first paragraph belo the nurr_her may be few comparatively speaking, but there are many many applicants in this _ituatior_ . Also in the first paragraph, a 408A decision doesn't come from HQ, it is stank-rd proce.sing right now. Your third bullet below is another matter and I am dealing with _t here and the folks from 125 Cedar should not have any troubles. Now, the matter at h , it i_= a problem we identified back in early September and was referred to HQ for guidance at tlit time. In the past, Northridge and other large scale disasters have indeed had the 408A program extended. We/I recommended back in September we (FEMA) mirror the 8B progr:.m in length of assistance, rights to reimbursement, etc. That way, it is only semantics and the program would run pretty much the same, without anything noticeable to tEa applicant. We have several cases who will run out of 408A and will be getting this lette_: this month, December as a "final" recert. I don't have the statistics at hand, but most .:ill rece've far less than the 18 months allotted to the 408B applicants. Yes, probli-_natic. Unless we get an extension, this is it. Thanks for your inquiry Gloria.
