09 WORKER PROTECTION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS:
A. Respiratory Protection is specified in Section 10.
1.02 WORKER TRAINING:
A. All workers are to be trained, certified and accredited as required by state and local codes or regulations.
B. All authorized workers shall provide proof of completion of coursework/training, including an EPA approved lead class, in handling contaminated materials and breathing contaminated dust and in proper work procedures and personal and area protective measures.
1.03 MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS:
A. Provide proof of passing medical examinations for all authorized workers who will enter the Work Area for any reason. At a minimum, examination shall meet OSHA requirements as set forth in 29 CFR 1926.1101. In addition, provide an evaluation of the individuals abilityto work in environments capable of producing heat stress in the worker.
PART 2 - EQUIPMENT
2.01 PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:
A. Provide worker protection as required by the most stringent NYCDEP, NYSDOL, OSHA and/or EPA standards applicable to the work. Provide to all workers, foremen, supervisors and authorized visitors and inspectors protective disposable clothing consisting of full-body coveralls, head covers, gloves and 18-inch high boot type covers or reusable footwear.
1. Coveralls: provide disposable full-body coveralls and disposable head covers and require that they be worn by all workers in the work area. Provide a sufficient number for all required changes for all workers and visiting personnel in the work area.
2. Boots: provide work boots with non-skid soles, and where required by OSHA, foot protective, for all workers. Paint uppers of all boots yellow with waterproof enamel. Do not allow boots to be removed from the work area for any reason after being contaminated with dust or debris.
3. Hard Hats: provide hard hats as required by OSHA for all workers, and provide spares for inspectors, visitors, etc. Require hard hats to be worn at all times that work is in progress that may cause potential head injury. Provide hard hats of the type with plastic strap type suspension. Require hats to remain in the work area throughout the work. Thoroughly clean and decontaminate and bag hard hats prior to removing them from the work area at the end of the work. 38 © AMBIENT GROUP. INC. -2002
