36. Porous: shall mean a material wth pores or tiny holes that can hold dust.

37. Professional Engineer (PE): shall mean an individual having at a minimum a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university with four years acceptable experience as an engineer and who has successfully completed both levels of the professional engineers examination administered by the State of New York Department of Education, Division of Professional Licensing.

38. Quantitative Fit Test: shall mean the individual test subject's responding (either voluntarily or involuntarily) to a chemical challenge outside the respirator facepiece. Three of the most popular methods include: 1) irritant smoke test; 2) odorous \apor test; 3) taste test.

39. REL: Recommended Exposure Limit. As defined by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, an airborne time weighted average concentration to which a person may be exposed to for up to a 10-hour workday during a 40-hour work week.

40. Registered Architect (RA): shall mean an individual having at a minimum a bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited college or university with three years acceptable experience as an architect and who has successfully completed both levels of the architects registration examination administered by the State of New York Department of Education, Division of Professional Licensing.

41. Removal: shall mean the stripping of any contaminated materials from surfaces or components of a facility or taking out structural components ofa facility.

42. Shower Room: shall mean a room between the Clean Room and the Equipment Room in the worker Decontamination Enclosure System with hot and cold running water controllable at the tap and arranged for complete showering during decontamination.

43. Staging Area: shall mean the work area near the waste transfer airlock where containerized contaminated waste has been placed prior to removal from the work area.

44. TLV: Threshold Limit Value. As defined by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), an airborne level of a substance to which a person may be exposed without exhibiting symptoms of toxicity.

45. Washroom: shall mean a room between the Work Area and the Holding Area in the equipment Decontamination Enclosure System where equipment and waste containers are wet cleaned and/or HEPA-vacuumed prior to disposal.

46. Wet Cleaning: shall mean the removal of dust from building surfaces and objects by using cloths, mops, or other cleaning tools Wiich have been dampened with water.

47. Work Area: shall mean designated rooms, spaces or areas of the building or structure where abatement activity take(s) place.

48. Work Area Worker: shall refer to any person physically performing clean-up work in the work area, possessing applicable certifications and training.
