WILDWOOD CREST, N.J. - For the second time in less than a week, several hundred rotting fish have washed ashore in Cape May County. The roughly foot-long fish, iden tified as Atlantic Menhaden, began appearing early yesterday morning in Wildwood Crest, offi cials said. By late afternoon, the beaches were covered with fish. “(The number) is hard to quan tify, but it’s enough where it would be an annoyance,” borough Beach Patrol Capt. Bud Johnson said. It was not immediately known what killed the fish. Authorities were trying to determine if a fish ing vessel had dumped the fish or lost their catch in the area. Last Monday, a similar incident occurred on beaches in Stone Har bor.
