Dear Friend of the Red Cross in Greater New York,

To help individuals and families cope with the traumatic effects of September 11, the Red Cross has assembled an unprecedented and comprehensive relief effort. While you are probably aware of the Red Cross, you may not realize that our efforts go far beyond the feeding and sheltering of rescue workers at Ground Zero.

I want to keep you abreast of the variety of services that we are providing in the Greater New York area, and I ask for your help in spreading the word to all of your colleagues and neighbors. Help us ensure that no individual or family goes without resources during these trying times.

The American Red Cross is directing its relief efforts to:

• Surviving families of the deceased • Physically or emotionally affected individuals and their families • Displaced households • Unemployed individuals • Rescue workers and • Stranded travelers

Assistance takes on a variety of forms, from the spiritual to the financial. Emergency assistance to families of the deceased, and those physically or emotionally affected by the tragedy, includes the means to cover funeral and burial costs, and to obtain rent, food, clothing and other essentials. Update 4 of 4 October 10, 2001
