Dear Ms. Bailey:
■ Attached are the laboratory results for airborne asbestos samples collected at the above referenced location.
These samples were collected and analyzed by Accredited Environmental Technologies, Inc. for
■ comparison with the clearance standards for airborne asbestos established by the New York City
Department of Environmental Protection Asbestos Control Program (Title 15, Chapter 1). Sample
collection occurred under normal occupancy conditions on April 9, 2002. All samples were collected with
high volume sampling pumps with sample durations of approximately five hours and are considered
basement, 1g and 2"' floors.
representative of background fiber concentrations throughout the
Results indicate that fiber concentrations in the background samples were primarily below 0.01 F/cc, a
level considered acceptable for occupancy according to the Department of Environmental Protection
• standards, with the exception of one sample from the basement which contained an elevated number of
fibers. The basement sample was reanalyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy which verified that
none of the fibers were asbestos. The reported concentration for the reanalyzed sample was below 70
■ S/mm2, a level considered acceptable according to DEP standards.
■ All samples were initially analyzed by Phase Contrast Microscopy per NIOSH Method 7400 for asbestos
fibers. This method measures total airborne fibers and does not distinguish fiber morphology. All
structures with a length to diameter ratio of 3 to 1 or greater and a length greater than 5 microns, are

considered to be fibers and are counted as such. The sample that yielded the elevated result by PCM was
reanalyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy in accordance with EPA requirements as stipulated in 40
CFR 763.90(i) (3) and (4). This method is capable of distinguishing asbestos fibers from other
• non-asbestiform mineral fibers. TEM analysis was performed by EMSL Analytical, Inc. of Piscataway,
NJ. If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact our
office.
