I were collected on a 37-millimeter (mm) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) filters, each with a 5-micron pore
size, mounted in 37-mm filter cassette sealed with plastic plugs and a cellulose band. Each filter
was weighed at the laboratory prior to mounting and sampling. After sampling the samples were
shipped to Galson Laboratories for analysis. The testing consisted of weighing the filter again
and reporting the difference in the results. The difference in weight and total sample volume
I were used to quantify the total nuisance dust concentrations in the air samples.
I All Mercury Air Sampling was conducted in accordance with the sampling, sample preparation,
L and analysis requirements of NIOSH Method 6009. Method 6009 requires the calibration of all
personal sampling pumps to a flow rate of 0.2 liters per minute. The sampling pumps were
operated until a total sample volume of greater than 50 liters of air was collected. Each of the
various air samples were collected on a 37-mm cellulose ester membrane filter mounted in a filter
cassette followed by a sorbent tube containing 200 mg of Hopcalite held in place by glass wool
plugs. PVC tubing was utilized to connect the entire sample train from the cassette at one end to
the personal pump at the other end. Upon completion of the sampling, plastic caps were placed
on both ends of each filter cassette and sorbent tube. The samples were then shipped to Galson
Laboratories for chemical analyses. The testing consisted of adding nitric and hydrochloric acids
to the filter and sorbent bed to develop a mixture. This mixture is then analyzed by atomic
absorption spectrophotometery to determine the micrograms of mercury in the mixture. The
I resulting micrograms in the mixture and total sample volume are then used to quantify the
mercury concentrations in the air samples.
I All Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Air Sampling was conducted in accordance with the sampling,
I sample preparation, and analysis requirements of NIOSH Method 5503. As required, each
sampling pump was calibrated to a flow rate of 0.2 liters per minute. The pumps were run to
collect a total sample volume of greater than 48 liters of air. Each air sample was collected on a

13-mm glass fiber filter in Swinnex cassette followed by a glass tube containing two sections of
30/48 mesh deactivated Florisil. The front section of Florisil is preceded by glass wool and 100
I milligram (mg) of urethane foam and the backup section contains 50mg, urethane foam. PVC
tubing was utilized to connect the entire sample train from the cassette at one end to the personal
I pump at the other end. When sampling was completed, the glass fiber filters were removed from
the cassettes and transferred into 7-milliliter (ml) glass vials. Plastic caps were placed on both
ends of each Florisil tube. The samples were then labeled and shipped to Galson Laboratories
for analyses. The chemical analysis in the lab consisted of adding hexane and the Florisil bed to
the glass vial with the filter. This mixture is then injected into a gas chromatograph with electron
I capture detection, to determine the micrograms of PCB in the mixture. The micrograms in the
