I All of the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Air Sampling was conducted in accordance with
the sampling, sample preparation, and analysis requirements of EPA Compendium Method TO-
15. The stainless steel canisters required by Method TO-15 were specially calibrated and
I prepared at Galson Laboratories to collect 0.4 liters of air. At the site, the steel canister was
connected to a quick grab regulator by sliding back the collar on the regulator and connecting it to
I the sampler tip of the steel canister. The completion of sampling was determined once the
regulator read zero. The collar was slid back again to disconnect the regulator from the canister
I and the stainless steel containers were plugged and shipped to Galson Laboratories for chemical
analysis. The laboratory analysis consisted of extracting the collected air, and injecting it into a
Gas Chromatographic/Mass Spectrometric System (GC/MS) to determine the micrograms of the
I various VOCs in the air. The micrograms of each VOC in the air and total sample volume are
then used to estimate each of the detected VOC concentrations in the air samples.
I All of the Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) Air Sampling was conducted in accordance
I with the sampling, sample preparation, and analysis requirements of the National Institute for
Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) Method 5506. As required, all of the pumps were
calibrated to a flow rate of 2 liters per minute. The sampling pumps were run to collect a total
fl sample volume of greater than 360 liters of air. The air samples were collected on a 37-mm
PTFE membrane filter, with a 1-micron pore size, mounted with a cellulose spacer ring in a 37-
I mm filter cassette followed by a sorbent tube containing XAD-2 resin. PVC tubing was utilized to
connect the entire sample train from the cassette at one end to the personal pump at the other
end. When sampling was completed the PTFE filter was removed from the cassette and
transferred into a culture tube and sealed with aluminum foil. Plastic caps were placed on both
ends of each XAD-2 resin sorbent tube and then wrapped with aluminum foil. The samples were
I then placed in ice-filled coolers and shipped via overnight courier to Galson Laboratories for
chemical analyses. The laboratory analyses consisted of extracting PAHs from the filter and
desorbing PAHs from the sorbent with acetonitrile, creating a solution. This solution is then
injected into a High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) to determine the micrograms of
the various PAHs in the mixture. The micrograms of each PAH in the solution and total sample
volume are used to calculate each PAH concentration in the air sample.
All of the Nuisance Dust Air Sampling was conducted in accordance with the sampling, sample
preparation, and analysis requirements of NIOSH Method 0500. As required, all of the personal
I sampling pumps were calibrated to a flow rate of 2 liters per minute. The pumps were operated
until a total sample volume of greater than 133 liters of air was collected. Each of the air samples
