WTC LOWER MANHATTAN SAMPLING GROUP - JIMENEZ, NORRELL, TEITZ, HALE, MUSTAFA, PATEL

Collection of airborne asbestos samples continued. Two twelve hour samples are taken at each fixed station per day. Debris offloading operations at Pier 6 have been discontinued, all related equipment has been removed. The Sampling group is recommending that sampling activities at stations U and V be discontinued. Starting 3/8/02 all pumps will be run at 2.0 liters per minute with piggybacked batteries in us. Since the additional batteries have been in use nearly all samples have been running 720 minutes.

VOC samples continued to be taken in the ground zero excavation. Analysis is performed in the Region 2 Mobile Laboratory and results provided to FDNY and the demolition contractors working at ground zero. VOC levels throughout the week remained at low levels. On 03/15-17, South Tower was observed to be smoking; benzene levels of 1.2 ppm were observed on 03/17/02.

Dioxin, PAHs, PCBs, silica and metals samples were collected on Tuesday and Thursday as scheduled. Duplicate samples were taken at station D located at the corner of Greenwich and Albany streets. Analysis is pending. Silica analysis is now being performed by Data Chern, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
