foil: Most parents like city schools . By CARL CAMPANILE Education Reporter Most city parents give their kids’ public schools a I good grade at a time when ' I hundreds of thousands of students flunk state stan dards, a Board of Educa tion survey found. The first-ever poll of 20,000 parents showed 72 percent giving schools a grade of A or B. I The remaining 28 per- ■ cent rate them poorly with grades of C through F. ' More than three quar ters. 78 percent, approved of the school climate. A whopping 80 percent answered that their school principal was doing a good job running the school'. About 77 percent-of the parents said their - kids’ school was safe.. , . The results oh safety were nearly the' same when queried about kids going to and from school. But many parents in poorer neighborhoods said their child’s school “is not a safe environment,’’- The poll by KPMG Con sulting was done before the trade center attacks. ' The survey was mailed to 125.000 parents, or 10 per cent of all parents.
