lottsductisiu At the request of Mr. Tom HincWy. S & B representatives conducted a survey of the building located at 176 Broadway, In New York, New York. On 29 April 2002, Mr. Rohde of S & B Environmental conducted a survey of apartments 4- D, PH-B 10-A, 3-D, and 10-E. During the survey, samples were collected from one supply point in each apartment. At each sample point, asbestos, lead, mercury, pulverized glass, and molds, and fungus were evaluated. This survey was a preliminary, limited evaluation.

The samples for lead, yielded results ranging from 160 to 1085 micrograms per square foot. These are moderately high readings for lead.

The asbestos samples yielded results ranging horn <3,165 to over 308,662 structures per centimeter squared on ths inside duct surfaces. These reading are indications of moderate to severe contamination inside the duct system.

The mercury samples yielded results ranging from 2.25 to 28.5 micrograms per foot square foot on the inside duct surfaces. These reading are indications of moderate to severe contamination inside the duct system.

The pulverized glass samples yielded results ranging from 1 to 16 % in the dust inside the ducts. These reading are indications of moderate to severe contamination inside the duct system.

The mold and fungus readings found several common materials, as well as several that could not be identified do to deformity, or decay. These results are typical, and do not alone present a condition of concern.

The following table presents the findings by apartment, and sample type.

Table 1 > Results of sampling Apartment Asbestos (str/cm^) Lead (ugm®) Mercury ug/ff Pulverized Glass (%) Molds & Fungus 4-D <3,165.76 1085 28.5 16 Present PH-B 4,748.84 214.2 14.7 8 Present 10-A 63,315.20 553.0 5.90 4 Present 3-D 5,144.38 160.2 2.25 1 Present 10-E 306,662.00 691.4 3.42 2 Present Overall, the sample results indicate serious contamination of the HVAC duct work. This survey was very limited in scope, and without further sampling. It should be assumed that similar levels of contamination will be present in other HVAC systems through out the building.
