Re: Wipe Samples for Polychlorinated Biphenyls Murray Uergtraum High School (M520) ATC Project No. 15-19125-0351

Dear Mr. Orlan:

ATC Associates Inc. (ATC) is pleased to provide this report of the results of wipe samples for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) collected on September 11, 2002, at the referenced locat on. The New York City Department of Education (DOE) requested this requested this sampling to evaluate possible contamination inside the school.

Scope of Work

The samples for PCBs were collected using sterile gauze pads and hexane as a solvent. The solvent was provided and samples were analyzed by PSC Analytical Services, Inc. (PSC), an American Industrial Hygiene Association-accredited laboratory in Reading, PA. The PCB tinalysis was performed using EPA Method 8082B.

Sonny Ramlal, Environmental Technician of ATC’s New York City office, collected the samples consis;ent with generally accepted industrial hygiene practices. The results of the sampling represent conditions on the date the samples were collected.

Results

ATC submitted three (3) samples and one blank for PCBs to PSC Analytical Services for analysis. A copy of the analytical laboratory report is provided in the Attachment.

The areas sampled were: the Lobby-Main Entrance, 3"* floor Hallway by Room 339 and 5"' Floor Halhv'ay by Room 518. The surface area was 100 square centimeters (lOOcm’).

The samples were analyzed for seven PCB compounds with differing percentages of chlorine.
