Re; Respirable Particulate Sampling Dr. Sun Yat Sen School (P.S. 131M) ATC Project No. 15-19125-0346

Dear Mr. Orlan:

ATC Associates Inc. (ATC) is pleased to provide this report of respirable particulate sampling conducted on August 22-23, 2002, in the referenced school building. The New York City Department of Education (DOE) requested this sampling prior to the resumption of classes to verify that acceptable indoor air quality is being maintained.

SCOPE OF WORK

ATC conducted this evaluation to assess the concentrations of respirable particulates within the building.

ATC collected one sample of PMj 5 for gravimetric analysis for 24 hours using a Micro Environmental Monitor® (MEM®), manufactured by SKC, Inc. The gravimetric sample was collected on pre-weighed PVC filters supplied and analyzed by PSC Analytical Services, Inc., an American Industrial Hygiene Association-accredited laboratory in Reading, PA.

Wagdi Abdelshahid and Tenzin Namgyal, Industrial Hygienists of ATC’s New York City office, conducted the sampling. The assessment was performed consistent with accepted indoor air quality assessment practices. The results of the sampling represent conditions on the date the sample was collected.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Currently, there are no regulatory standards for indoor air quality in non-industrial buildings, such as offices and schools.
