Mr. Bernard P. Orlan July 5, 2002 Air Samples for Metals Page 2 P.S. 89 fManhattan) ATC Proiect No. 15-19125-0297

Results

The only metal found above the limits of detection was Chromium (Cr). Cr was detected in all four samples and in the blanks. Sample results are listed in the table:

Sample ID/ Concentration in Sample Concentration after Location (ug) Blank Conection (ug/m’)

ATC-0425-89M-Ml/Playground North 0.701 0.313

ATC-0425-89M-M2/Playgiound South 0.648 0.269

ATC-0425-89M-M3/Hallway outside 0.770 0.370 Cafeteria

ATC-0425-89M-M4/Roof 0.417 0.076

ATC-0425-89M-M5/Blank 0.322

ATC-0425-89M-M6/Blank 0.325

After blank-correction, the Cr concentration in Sample # ATC-0425-89M-M4 was lowered to 0.076 micrograms per cubic meter (ug/m^) and the concentrations in Sample # ATC-0425-89M- Ml,ATC-0425-89M-M2, ATC-0425-89M-M3 were 0.313, 0.269, 0.370 ug/m’ respectively.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set a screening level for hexavalent Cr (the more toxic form) in air of 0.6 ug/m", this assumes a continuous exposure for one year. The samples here were analyzed for total Cr (trivalent and hexavalent). These results were below the EPA’s screening level for hexavalent Cr.'

ATC appreciates the opportunity to provide this indoor air quality service to the BOE. Please call (212) 353-8280 extension 212 or extension 290 if you have any questions,

Sincerely, ATC Associates, Inc. Reviewed by:
