NYC 9/11 Public Portal Document
June ,2002
Dear Resident or Owner:
As part of an ongoing effort to assess potential environmental impacts following the collapse of the World Trade Center, the New York City Department of Health, with the assistance of local and federal agencies, conducted air and surface dust testing for fibers (asbestos and fiberglass) and minerals found in building construction material (crystalline silica or quartz, calcite, port/lime, gypsum, mica, and halite) in some residences in lower Manhattan. The air was also tested for particulate matter.
Earlier this year, results of asbestos analyses were sent to building owners and residents. The information enclosed in this package explains the results of the remaining materials that were sampled in the air and settled surface dust both inside and outside your building. According, you will find two enclosures with this letter. Enclosure 1 lists the sampling results from your building. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the Executive Summary from the Final Technical Report of the Public Health Investigation to Assess Potential Exposures to Airborne and Settled Surface Dust in Residential Areas of Lower Manhattan. A copy of this report can be found on our web page at www. nyc.sov/health.
If you have questions about the information in this letter, please do not hesitate to contact NYC Department of Health, Environmental and Occupational Disease Epidemiology Unit at 212-788-4290.
Enclosures:
(1) Results of Fiberglass and Minerals in Settled Dust and Air Sampling in Building XX
(2) Executive Summary.- Final Report of the Public Health Investigation to Assess Potential Exposures To Airborne and Settled Surface Dust in Residential Areas of Lower Manhattan
