TABLE 1 TARGET GUIDELINES FOR AIR QUALITY PARAMETERS EVALUATED*

Respirable 65 micrograms per cubic Particulates meter of air (pg/m^) 24 USEPA NPAAQS {PM2.5) hour average Respirable USEPA recommendation Particulates 40 ng/m3 24 hour average for children/sensitive {PM2..5) individuals USEPA ” United States Environmental Protection Agency NPAAQS = National Primary Ambient-Air Quality Standard

REAL-TIME SAMPLING RESULTS

A total of thirty-three (33) outdoor respirable particulates measurements* were collected from eight locations in Manhattan, ranging from E. 12* St. to E. 33'"'^ St. The measurements were made from 12:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. The lAQ field report forms are provided as the Attachment.

The PM2.5 concentrations ranged from 49 ug/mJto 84 gg/m^. Thirteen readings were above the NPAAQS of 65 and all were above the EPA recommended level for children and sensitive individuals of 40 ug/m ’.

* The measurements made during this assessment were instantaneous readings, the NPAAQS and the recommendation for children are 24-hour averages.

CONCLUSION

Based on our measurements, ail of the PM2.5 concentrations at the locations assessed exceeded the EPA guideline and 40% exceeded the applicable EPA standard.

It is our pleasure to provide these indoor air consultative services to the New York City Board of Education. If you have any questions about this report, please contact me at (212) 353-8280, extension 261 or 212.
