Mr. Bernard P. Orlan April 29, 2002 Respirable Paniculate Sampling Page 2 P. S. 234 (Manhattan)________ ATC Project No. 15-19125-0279

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Currently, there are no regulatory standards for indoor air quality in non-industrial buildings, such as offices and schools. Table 1 lists target guideline for the parameter that ATC evaluated during this investigation. Meeting the listed value does not assure that acceptable indoor air quality will be achieved at all times.

TABLEI TARGET GUIDELINES FOR lAQ PARAMETER EVALUATED

65 micrograms per cubic Respirable meter of air (pg/m’) 24-hour USEPA NPAAQS Particulates (PMj^) average____________ 40 micrograms per cubic USEPA recommendation for meter of air (ugW) 24-hour children and sensitive average individuals USEPA = United States Environmental Protection Agency NPAAQS = National Primary Ambient-Air Quality Standard

RESULTS

ATC collected one (1) 24-hour gravimetric respirable particulate sample in Main Lobby on each day. Copies of the analytical laboratory reports are provided in the Attachment. The results are shown in Table 2:

TABLE 2 MAIN LOBBY 24-HOUR AVERAGE PM^ 5 CONCENTRATIONS

March 26-27 8.33 April 2-3 132 April 9-10 <3.47* * Limit of Detection

CONCLUSION

Sample results obtained fi-om all three 24-hour sampling periods were below both the EPA NPAAQS for PM, j of 65 ug'm' (24-hour average) and the EPA recommended level of 40 ug/m\
