A whopping 70 percent of those surveyed said they do not believe the Environmental Protection Agency and other government agencies that say the air quality near the World Trade Center site is safe. Twenty-three percent believe the air is safe, and 8 percent weren't sure. "This is the question where we see New Yorkers of all types," said pollster Julie Weprin of Blum and Weprin Associates," in clear agreement where they do not believe reports by the EPA and other government agencies that the air down near ground zero is safe to breathe." Six months after the World Trade Center attack. New Yorkers appear to feel safe living in the city. Nearly half, 48 percent, say they feel about as safe in New York City as anywhere in the country, and 20 percent feel safer in the city than anywhere else. Just under a third, or 29 percent, say they feel less safe, and 3 percent are unsure. "New Yorkers are not feeling especially vulnerable in that they don't believe that this was all about just New York, and I don't think they think they're particularly targeted for the future, that this was an attack on America," said pollster Mickey Blum.
