3. The Need for Peer Review/Science Advisory Panel • Peter said EPA already has a contractor lined up to start the work and there are funds available to support it. • Submitting our reports and plans for peer review would help gain credibility. • A recommendation was made that our critics can select panelists. • Peer review always adds more time to the process. • Peter Grevatt will provide examples of how the process worked in other situations. • This process would be useful if it can be made to work. • Need to decide what would be peer-reviewed, whole approach or single issues

4. Plan for Pilot Clean-up • The plan is to sample-clean-sample using HEPA vacuuming, regular vacuuming, and wet washing. • Will start with the broader COC list • Will continue to work through NYC for list of buildings and accessibility. • Recommendation made that pilot effort try to evaluate dust exposure to an individual while cleaning. • There were 10 buildings identified as untouched in the Greenwich Street/Cedar Street/Liberty Street and Church Street area. • NYC’s legal department will coordinate with EPA’s Office of Regional Counsel regarding this information. • The exteriors need to be cleaned before the Pilot clean-up can be done inside the buildings. • Questions will be asked about what the exposure risk was to those who already performed self-cleaning. • OSHA’s personal monitoring data collected during earlier cleaning activities shows very low levels. OSHA will share this data with the workgroup. • ATSDR will be providing a report to the workgroup in May.

5. Status of NYCDEP Efforts for Building Clean-up • 258 buildings have been sampled. Bulk and air samples have been taken. Report shared with group. • There is existing data available for NYC-owned or leased buildings. • Bids are due next week for the air monitoring contracts associated with the exterior building clean-ups. • NYC will provide a map of the clean-up area. • All buildings in the area are being cleaned regardless of contamination levels. • Some building owners did their own exterior cleaning. NYC will visually inspect these buildings prior to cleaning or removing them from the list. • The workgroup needs to come up with a communication plan to respond to the public
