4. Air-purifying respirator face pieces shall be worn into the shower. Filtered/power pack assemblies shall be decontaminated in accordance with manufacturers recommendations; and
5. Respirators shall be stored in a dry place and in such a manner that the face piece and exhalation valves are not distorted; and
6. Unless recommended by the manufacturer, organic solvents shall not be used for washing of respirators.
3.06 AIR PURIFYING RESPIRATORS;
A. Supply a sufficient quantity of HEPA respirator filters so that workers can change filters at any time that flow through the face piece decreases to the level at which the manufacturer recommends filter replacement. Require that regardless of flow, filter cartridges must be replaced after 40 hours of use. Require that HEPA elements in filter cartridges be protected from wetting during showering. Require entire exterior housing of respirator, including blower unit, filter cartridges, hoses, battery pack, face mask, belt, and cords, be washed each time a worker leaves the Work Area. Caution should be used to avoid shorting battery pack during washing. Provide an extra battery pack for each respirator so that one can be charging while one is in use.
