05 AIR AND WIPE SAMPLING
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS:
A. Air and Wipe Sampling for Work Area clearance is also described in Section 14 Work Area Clearance.
1.02 DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK:
A. This section describes work being performed by the Owner. This work is not in the Contract Sum.
B. This section describes air and wipe sampling carried out by the Owner to verify that the building premises beyond the work area and the outside environment remains uncontaminated.
C. All sampling described in this section shall be performed by qualified industrial hygienists, who shall also be trained and certified as Asbestos Air Sampling Technicians, and shall be conducted under the guidance and supervision of a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
D. Any air monitoring that is required by OSHA is the responsibility of the Contractor and is not covered in this section.
1.03 AIR MONITORING DURING WORK:
A. The purpose of the Owner's air monitoring is to detect faults in the work area isolation such as:
1. Contamination of the premises outside of the work area with contaminated dust and debris.
2. Failure of filtration systems or rupture in the differential pressure system.
B. Should any of the above occur, immediately cease abatement activities until the fault is corrected. Do not recommence work until authorized in writing by Ambient Group, Inc.
1.04 STOP ACTION LEVELS:
A. When visible emissions occur outside the work area, or any air sample has indicated a determinant level of fiber concentrations equal to or greater than 0.01 f/cc by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) via the NIOSH 7400 method, work shall stop for inspection. Ambient Group, Inc. shall inspect and determine the source of the high reading and notify the Contractor immediately.
B. If the high reading was the result of a failure of Work Area isolation measures, initiate the following procedures:
1. Clean the affected area in accordance with Section 13 Project Decontamination.
