I Watershed Workshops i j 1 Watersheds play an important role in the environmental and economic well being of all New York communities Protecting watershed resources while maintaining a sustain­ able economic base and accommodating growth can be espe­ cially challenging for communities facing coastal and water- . shed management issues. The Environmental Protection Agency along with the New York Aquarium is conducting a two-day workshop about coastal watersheds to encourage comprehensive plan­ ning. The workshops will be held at the New York Aquarium on October 2 and 3. The goal is to involve public and private interests to achieve a balance between quality development and resource protection. This workshop is designed for individuals who are inter­ ested or involved in water resource protection programs, ihcluding local officials and-staff..(planners,Jiealth officials and conservation officials); county, state, and federal gov­ ernment officials: non-profit organizations concemed.with natural resource management; local media; scientists inter­ ested in coastal watershed management options; and others involved in land and water resource management and pro­ tection. To register or for more information, call the Aquarium at 265-3448 or fax your name, phone number arid affiliation to Ellen Burros at 508-833-3150. A Wildlife Conservation Society park, the Aquarium’s ticket booth opens every day of the year at 10 a.m. and remains open until 5 p.m. General admission is $9.75, and $6 for children two to 12 years of age and senior citizens, 65 and older; children under two years of age are admitted free. The parking fee includes one adult admission. The Aquarium is located at West 8^ Street and Siirf Avenue.
