Attention: Douglas S. Greeley, P.E. Deputy Commissioner

Reference: WTC Rebuilding of New York City Transit 1&9 Subway Lines

Dear Mr. Greely:

As part of the above reference matter, Staunton Chow, P.C. and Architects (SC) have been tasked by the New York City Transit Authority through FMP Group, to investigate the water leaks in the vicinity of the former World Trade Center site (WTC) as a result of the September 11 terrorist attack.

We requested all Maps and some information pertinent to the water leaks from Mr. Vincent J. Soriano, Chief, Bureau of Water and Sewer operations , Central Mapping and records. We were able to obtain the maps, however we were directed to your office with any further inquiries regarding the site on and after September 11.

The NYC TA has expressed concern about the possible uplift pressures of groundwater. NYC TA, has data regarding the water table, but need additional critical information to accurately proceed with the rebuilding of the subway lines 1 &9.

We would like to take this opportunity to respectfully request the following information: • Location of the water and sewer main breaks. • When the water main shut down took place. • When and what emergency repairs were done to the water and sewer mains. • Approximate amount of water (gallons) lost due to water and sewer mains.

Please note that our office, as consultants to the FPM Group and the New York City Transit Authority, will use this information solely for the purpose of interpreting readily available groundwater information in the above-mentioned project.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate and contact the undersigned. Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter.
