■ February 6,2002

The Honorable Guy J. Velella 2019 Williamsbridge Road Bronx, New York 10461

Dear Senator Velella:

I am in receipt of your letter regarding Asbestos Containment Services inquiring as to the status of payment due, as a result of services rendered during the World Trade Center disaster.

This firm was hired to perform asbestos remediation under a Declaration of Emergency. This allowed work to be performed immediately to alleviate a potential threat to public health. Under the Procurement Policy Board rules, a formal contract is then processed subsequent to the completion of the actual work. This contract process has been expedited as much as possible with the formal contract books currently being signed by the vendor. It will be sent to the Comptroller’s Office for registration as soon as it is returned to the Department of Environmental Protection, with payment immediately following registration.

We are greatly appreciative of the expeditious response we received from contractors during this tragic period, and will expedite payment as quickly as possible.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Joel A. Miele Sr., P.E. / Commissioner /
