PERSONAL SAFETY & HEALTH PROTECTION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SEARCH AND RESCUE PERSONNEL

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) All personnel involved in Task should wear the following: • Hard Hats • Steel-toed/Heavy Duty Work Shoes • Long Pants and Long Sleeve Work Shirts • Safety Glasses/Eye Protection • Respiratory Protection v' Ground Zero: Respirators with HEPA filters Y" Other Areas: Dust Mask

Work Area Safety Concerns • Watch surroundings at all times • Be aware of materials and debris that may fall from damaged buildings • Walking and working surfaces (slip/trip/fall hazards) • Cap and secure unused pressurized cylinders . • As far as practical, try to keep the generation of dusts to a minimum • Use the buddy system

Work Area Health Concerns • When leaving work areas: v' Dust off clothing Clean or scrape shoes v'Wash hands and face Clean respirators and eye wear as frequently as possible v'No consumption of foods that have not been covered or properly sealed (hygiene issues)

Heavy Equipment Operations • Stand Clear of Operating Equipment and Vehicles • Use tag lines when lifting loads • Use spotter during lifting operation and for personnel safety in area (no lifting over personnel/equipment) • All equipment operators wear proper PPE if leaving Equipment (see above) • Be cautious of operating speeds in work areas and especially when leaving the area v' Recommend speeds no faster than 10 mph until outside hazard areas
