Follow-Up Sampling Activities Related to ATSDR/NYCDOH/EPA Indoor Pilot Residential Sampling
PHASE I - Revisit Residences With Elevated Fibrous Glass/Asbestos Levels

Evaluate residential questionnaire for original sampling event, and update it for re-sampling efforts.

Approach to Re-sampling
Revisit 13 (out of 34) apartment buildings with elevated levels of asbestos and/or fibrous glass in dust. Re-sample for these constituents only.
Conduct re-sampling for indoor locations (i.e., residences and common areas) only, where elevated levels were detected. (There was no correlation of outdoor sample results to indoor sample results for this study, outdoor samples provided no further insights.)
Conduct re-sampling only for dust samples by loading and percent volume.
Use same methods for asbestos testing (e.g. PLM, TEM) and fibrous glass (e.g. PLM/SEM) as in previous round of tests.
PHASE II - Background Sample Study
Agency Responsibilities
EPA takes the lead in procuring and overseeing sampling and analytical contracts and conducts assessment of analytical data. EPA drafts Quality Assurance Plan and provides on-site oversight. EPA issues final report in consultation with ATSDR and NYCDOH.
ATSDR evaluates owner/renter questionnaire for original sampling event, and updates it for background sampling efforts. ATSDR participates in data evaluation.
