Dear Mayor Giuliani:
On October 9, 2001, we wrote you (copy attached) with respect to seeking relief with regard to the real estate taxes which will be due on January 1, 2002. Following receipt of this letter, a meeting was scheduled with representatives of our Association and Deputy Mayor Robert Harding. This meeting took place on October 23. Present were Deputy Mayor Harding, Commissioner Eristoff, and a representative of the Office of Management and Budget. Al! of the members of your administration present were extremely attentive and genuinely interested in seeking a resolution to this problem.
Mr. Mayor, January u s rapidly approaching and we have not received a solution to our problem. The first quarter of 2002 appears to be dismal at best and I am fearful that several of our members will be unable to make their tax and/or mortgage payments as a result of the dramatic loss of revenue since September 11P.
Once again, we are urgently requesting that the January 1 real estate tax payments be deferred for LI a period of six months at which time, hopefully, we will be in a better position to dcal with the continuing crisis.
Over the years you have been a true friend and supporter of the travel and tourism industry, and we now look to you for an extremely important decision that will undoubtedly save some of our members from a dire economic situation. We urgently await your action in this matter.
