Conventions and Meetings Switch to New York

Representatives were also on hand from five major organizations that have moved their previously scheduled meetings or conventions to New York City in a show of support:

• The American Society of Travel Agents' (ASTA) World Travel Congress, originally scheduled in Seville, Spain, will now bring its 2,500 attendees to New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Sunday, November 4 through Wednesday, November 7, 2001. - • The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), representing the nation's top trade associations and hundreds of millions of dollars of potential convention business, will hold its 150-person Board of Directors meeting, originally scheduled for Buenes Aires, Argentina, at New York's Waldorf=Astoria from November 16 to 18, 2001. • The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO is bringing the 1,500 attendees of its biennial Women's Conference, originally scheduled for Boston, to New York's Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers from November 16 to 18. The meeting will be dedicated to union member Father Mychal Judge and seven others who remain missing. • The Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) will bring the 600 attendees of the annual American Magazine Conference, originally scheduled for Phoenix, to New York on October 21 to 24. • Meeting Planners International (MPI) will bring the MPI Foundation Meeting, originally scheduled for Colorado, to New York City's New York Hilton and Towers on October 27.
