Included herein is an estimate of the economic loss attributable to a hypothetical line-of-duty death based roughly on the methodologies used by courts in "Wrongful Death" lawsuits.
The calculations necessary involve estimating the Actuarial Present Value ("APV") of estimated future income lost plus, in some analyses, the APv of estimated increased expenses due to the death of the employee. w
A comparison of this result is then be made against the estimated APv of future pension income and sum lump
death benefits provided by either the employer(s) and/or others.
