Regarding Marriott Hotel Asbestos Results: a

On October 11,2001 samples were collected In the lobby of the Marriott Financial Center hotel in order to determine if any asbestos containing dust was present In the designated break area for the WTC operations. These samples were collected Fallowing a remark by a work that dust on his clothing was asbestos. in order S to verify that asbestos was not being deposited in the break area by poor hygiene practices, the samples were collected and analyzed by TEM according to AHERA protocols. S The results Indicate that asbestos as cluysotile was present in one sample but the level was reported as 0.0023 D'cc which is less the EPA ambient level of 0.01 f/cc. The levels are approximately similar to ambient levels reported in the October 16 EPA Summary Report on "AirfBullk/Wipa/Water Sampling Situation Report". As such the prelianivaty results indicate that haamds of exposure to asbestos fibers in the break area are within recommended levels under the operation as typical for the break area operation.

No further action is recommended at this time except to caution employees about making inaccurate or misleading announcements regarding possible asbestos contamination,. S Attachment: a
