The data from the Department of Interior's network of weather stations around the World Trade Center site are not available on the internet at this time. The sites are still operating and data are still being collected. The DOI staff here in NYC collect the data and store it daily. So the data are not lost, just not available to the public (or us) at this time.
The wind data web site is run by a contractor for the DOI, but a judge has ordered DOI's computer systems shut down to protect information on its Tribal trust funds from hackers. Because of this, the data cannot be sent over the internet to the contractor's web site at this time.
There is no estimate on how long it will take the DOI to restore its computer systems, but it appears that they will have to add extensive security measures, like EPA did last year, before they are back on line.
