Below is our report related to the air quality testing conducted at Pace buildings located in Manhattan.

Executive Summary

The primary air quality concern related to the World Trade Center Tragedy for Pace University buildings is asbestos. Although it is known that the majority of asbestos containing materials had been removed from the World Trade Center towers, some asbestos containing materials remained.

In response to this ocN,.e m', Psre retained Cn1den C.c,rl,nratioti to conduct testing and determine if the 'University buildings were safe to reoccupy. Calder' collected asbestos air samples from representative areas wiiun I Pace Plaza, 41 Parke Row, 135 William Street and 156 William Street. Additionally, settled dust samples were collected from Pace Plaza dori'zt rooms .and office areas at 156 William Street.

All asbestos air sample results were within safe limits established, by the Environmental Agency (EPA), the New York. Ste Dvptt ixncnt of Labor (NYS.IjOL) and &b Now Yuik City Depamnent of Environmental Protection (NXC DP).

Results of bulk dust samples analyzed for asbestos were all non-hazardous as, defined by the.EPA.

Based on these data, re-occupancy of the Pace buildings in the vicinity of the tragedy is considered safe.

All occupants need to be aware that some precautions are still necessary because smoke is expected to continue emanating from the stricken buildings for some time. At the time of the sampling, Pace buildings were not affected by the smoke. However; if wind causes Pace buildings to l,e Affected by smoke, the best course of action is to stay indoors. If the buildings are affected by smoke, the NYS Dcpa&tncnt of llcelth Division of Indoor Air Quality, rccommonds that outdoor air in takes be closed so that only cleaner indoor air is circulated through ventilation system filters. This should minimize effects from. smoke.
