Dear Mr. Radhakrishnan:
The Borough of Manhattan Community College, located at 199 Chambers Street, was
closed, except for emergency service personnel, from September 11, 2001 until October
1, 2001. Prior to opening, the school's air and dust were tested by H. A. Bader
Consultants, Inc., Professional Industries, and Martin Levine, Ph.D.-Chemistry, the
college's Occupational and Safety Officer. Under separate cover, with a copy of this
letter, are their reports along with copies of subsequent tests through February, 2002.
At no time did we find asbestos in air exceeding 70 Asbestos Structures per square
millimeter. All those samples were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy.
Dust was analyzed for asbestos using polarized light microscopy and no sample exceeded
one-percent asbestos.
The building environment is monitored frequently and protocols for cleaning are
constantly reassessed. Filters and prefilters for our HVAC system are periodically
examined and replaced. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
Very truly yours,
Edward J. S llivan
