MEMORANDUM

From: Robert C. Adams, CIH, CSP Director EHSS

To: Michael Burton Executive Deputy Commissioner

RE: Stuyvesant High School Air Sampling Results

Two ambient air samples for asbestos were collected between the hours of 4 PM and 12 PM on 10/14/01 outside Stuyvesant High School. The samples were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which provides results that are specific for the presence of asbestos fibers. Using this method, the EPA guideline for acceptable concentrations is 70 structures per square milttmeter (s/mn?). The results obtained for this round of sampling were as follows:

LOCATION ______________ Airborne Concentration (s/min") Pier 25/ Outside north exit of school______ ND <16.67 ___________ Pier 25/Northwest of Stuyvesant High School ND <16.67 ND = not detected

The laboratory chain of custody sheet(s) are attached.

Please contact Robert Adams if there are any questions.
