Dear Mr, Donohoe;
In response to your fax of March 1, 2002, requesting additional analyses, STL Edison offers the following infonnation.
PCB analysis was requested by EPA Method 608 with a method detection limit (MDL) of 0.065 parts per billion fppb). We analyze PCBs by that method with MDLS of 0.2 to 0,5 ppb. (See enclosed list.) An MDL of 0.065 parts per billion for Aroclor 1242 only is included in 40 CFR, Part 136, Appendix A, Method 608. This method was originally published in The Federal Register, Volume 49, Number 209, on Friday, October 26, 1984. MDLS for other Aroclors are undetennined in that publication. However, an MDL of 0.065 parts per billion for Aroclor 1242 was achieved on de-ionized water under ideal analytical conditions and should not be extrapolated to real world analysis.
Analysis for Chlorofluoromethane was also requested. This is not a compound we have previously analyzed for in environmental samples. We do not have a standard for it nor can we locate a supplier for one. We would not be able to quantify this compound unless supplied with a standard. The samples we have received to date contain I Chlorodifluoromethane, which is also a Chlorofluorocarbon with similar industrial uses. We do have a standard for that compound and we would be happy to add that to the list of Volatile Organics we are pressutly reporting.
