Mr. Bernard P. Orlan August 29, 2002 Indoor Air Quality Assessment Page 4 P.S. 2M ATC Project No, 15-19125-0341

* The measurements made during this assessment were instantaneous readings, the NPAAQS is a 24-hour average.

TVOC Concentration

TVOC concentration indoors ranged from 0.0 ppm to 0.1 ppm. The AIHA guideline for odor control is 1 ppm. The outdoor TVOC concentration was 0.2 ppm and 0.1 ppm collected before and after the indoor samples.

OBSERVATIONS During this assessment, ATC noted the following: • Several class rooms and offices have window mounted A/C units; • The building has no central A/C; ASHRAE standards do not apply directly to a naturally-ventilated building; • Ure interior of the building appeared clean and free of dust and debris; • People observed in several classrooms in the building;

FINDINGS

Based on the real-time measurements, the following findings are presented:

I. Concentrations of COp- CO and TVOCs were within applicable standards and guidelines. 2. All indoor temperature measurements were above the range of 73 to79 °F (at 50 percent relative humidity) recommended by ASHRAE Standard 55-1992 during the summer season, 3. Four (4) of Forty eight (48) indoor measurements for relative humidity were slightly above the ASHRAE-recommended range of 30 to 60 percent for occupant comfort. 4. All indoor measurement for PM2.5 were below the NPAAQS of 65 pg/m^ 24-hour average concentration of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in aerodynamic diameter. Thirty one (31) of the forty-eight (48) instantaneous indoor readings were above the USEPA recommended concentration of 40 pg/m3 for sensitive individuals such as asthmatic people and children. Both outdoor measurements for lAQ s were below the NPAAQS of 65 pg/m^ 24-hour average concentration of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in aerodynamic diameter.

It is our pleasure to provide these indoor air quality services to the New York City Department of Education. If you have any questions about this report, please call (212) 353-8280, extension 370 or 212.

Sincerely, J TC ASSOCiA TES INC. Revie}yetL£y:-
