The detected PaHs are ubiquitous in industnalized areas, and bear the fingerprint of coal tar creaosote used to treat marine pilings. Many submerged pilings area present in the area. Dredging operations were resulting in high concentrations of suspended matter in the vicinity, and some settling of suspended sediment This area has nor been subjected to dredging for a long period of time.
