Outline of Indoor Air Task Force Activities Identified on 2/27
1. DEP and EPA will work together to develop a cost proposal for DEP’s indoor air quality database.
2. EPA will take the lead, with representatives from the communication offices of participating
agencies, on developing a communications clearinghouse proposal. The proposal will include:
Mechanisms for providing an overall risk characterization of the ambient data.
3. NYCDOH will develop a proposal regarding the use of an “advocate” model.
4. EPA will take the lead on identifying the contaminants of concerns and benchmarks for use in
assessments of indoor air quality.
5. ATSDR will work with NYCDOH to identify the next steps in their study, particularly to address
the objective of determining if the recommended cleaning procedures are effective.
6. The group will identify potential buildings for testing of the cleaning protocols.
7. EPA will explore obtaining expertise to respond to questions regarding HVAC cleaning and to
make recommendations for future cleaning techniques. DEP’s database will need review to
evaluate the type of information that has already been received.
